Effects of the construction and portrayal of teen identity by the mainstream media

Here is the documentary we watched on 'Teen Trouble'

You need to find at least three examples of newspaper stories, articles, tv programmes, or films that;

- Create a negative, or stereotypical identity of teenagers
- Use emotive, hysterical, selective, or exaggerated media language to create this identity (mediate it)
- Explain how these examples of media language create, reinforce stereotypes.\
- Think of how these examples could affect;

  • Adults and mainstream society
  • Teenagers and adolescents
Put these on your blog and be prepared to explain them to the class next double lesson.

How you are marked for your coursework

The coursework unit at A2 is marked out of a total of 100 marks:

20 marks for the planning and research and its presentation;
60 marks for the construction of your actual products (music video, website and digipac);
20 marks for the evaluation.

In the evaluation the following four questions must be addressed:
  • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  • What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

    You need to have a rough cut of your music video completed by Thursday 11th February, in order that you can use half term for any mop up shoots.

    It is very important that you show your rough cut to as many people as possible so that you can make changes reflecting feedback in order to answer Question 3.
